The ending of season 1 of The Order explained...

Netflix is back with another original TV series. The Order dropped on Friday (Mar 8) and people have been binging it back to front. The show tells the story of college freshman Jack Morton (Jake Manley) and his trials and tribulations during his first year at Belgrave University. There's a twist though. Belgrave is home to a world of magic, mystery and werewolves and Jack finds himself thrust into the centre of it all.

From the secret societies (The Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose and The Knights of Saint Christopher) to the seriously shady characters (we wouldn't trust Edward Coventry with anything), the entire series is wild. However, it's the ending of season 1 that is really causing a commotion on social media. There is a huge plot twist that changes everything and some fans are outraged with it.

In the season 1 finale of The Order, we find out that Edward wants to take over the world. To do this, he has to bind with the Vade Mecum by sacrificing his first born son. He thinks that this is his young boy Maddox, however, it is Jack. Randall and Hamish encourage Jack to let Edward kill Maddox but Jack intervenes to stop Edward from killing a child. He reveals his secret identity.

Edward then attempts to perform the ritual with Jack but it turns out that Jack has got Clay (The Golem) to take on his form and trick Edward. When Edward tries to sacrifice Clay, he gets sucked into the Vade Mecum. Vera then appears to destroy the book with a potion but she actually stores it in her office. Does Vera want to seize its power or is she just protecting it from others?

All of this is a lot to take in. However, it's the final twist that is confusing people. After everything happens, members of The Order wipe the memories of all the werewolves using magic dust without any explanation. After kissing Jack, Alyssa blows dust on him and immediately he can't remember anything that happened in season 1. It doesn't seem to make any sense.

Understandably, many fans are outraged. Here are just a few reactions.

Obviously it's not unusual for a show to end on a plot twist and some fans were happy to see it end on a cliffhanger. Still, it's understandable why others were disappointed with how season 1 drew to a close.
