Riverdale's New Character Will "Test Limits Of Bughead" And You're Probably Gonna Hate It

With just over 2 months to go until Riverdale returns to our screens, we've been learning more and more about what season two will hold for our favourite fictional characters. Is Fred dead? Who is Betty's secret brother? Will Josie ever get the respect she deserves? So many questions to answer.
There's also been rumours of a bunch of brand new characters heading to Riverdale but brace yourselves because one of them could have the potential to throw a spanner in the Bughead relationship.

A character called Toni Topaz will joining the cast of the show in season two and she sounds AMAZING.
According to the Comics, Toni is a bit of a friendly rival to Jughead in every way and they are very similar personality-wise. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa describes her as someone who is "very, very vivacious, exciting and a bit of a disrupter. She very famously has as large an appetite for hamburgers as Jughead Jones."
In the comics, she attends Riverdale High's arch rival Central High but in the show? "She's going to be a student at Southside High. She's going to be a member of the Southside Serpents and she's going to be a friend and confidant to Jughead Jones." Aguirre-Sacasa also revealed that Toni will have her signature pink hair and she will be bisexual just like her comic counterpart.

So, who will be playing the role of your soon to be Queen Toni Topaz? Actress Vanessa Morgan, who you may have seen on The Shannara Chronicles, will be dying her hair pink and heading to Southside High in October.
In fact, Vanessa audition for Riverdale last year but there sadly wasn't a role for her just yet. Aguirre-Sacasa then promised her that he would have a role for her in season and BAM! Now she's got one.
As for a little taste of what Toni Topaz is going to be like? A leaked audition tape of Lorelai Linklater reading for the role was found online where you can hear part of a conversation between her and Jughead when he arrives at Southside High for his grand tour.
Thanks to their similar traits and interests, it sounds like Toni could become an important person in Juggie's new life on the South Side. But knowing Jughead, we can't see the two of them becoming romantically involved, there's no way he'd do that to Betty. We ~can~ see their potential close friendship making Betty feel super paranoid and maybe a little bit jealous seeing as they now live on different parts of town though.
Either way, we love her already! A female Jughead? Sign. Us. Up!
