The Riverdale actress decided to address the pregnancy rumours after an "unflattering" picture of her circulated on Instagram - and she turned it into an important lesson about body positivity.
Riverdale's Lili Reinhart took time to address pregnancy rumours and comment on the ridiculous public scrutiny surrounding her body again after an "unflattering" photo of her started circulating on Instagram this past weekend (May 28).
Lili was recently spotted in New Orleans with boyfriend and co-star Cole Sprouse, Zoey Deutch and Haley Lu Richardson. The group had been sneakily photographed around the city by a handful of fans but it wasn't until this one particular photo of Lili prompted followers to start speculating whether or not she was pregnant, that she decided to comment on it.
Lili took to Instagram to call out the fans who took the time to comment and shame her body with an inspiring statement, highlighting the importance of self acceptance and body positive thinking. Honestly, what did we do to deserve this unapologetic queen?
The statement reads: "It's unfortunate that one unflattering photo of my stomach circulating the internet causes hundreds of people to think that I'm pregnant. Nope. Not pregnant. This is just my body. And sometimes I'm bloated. Sometimes an unflattering photo of me is taken. Sometimes I go through periods of time where I gain weight.
My body is something I will NEVER apologize for. My body will constantly go through change. And so will yours. And that's fine. So let's not put so much time and effort into caring about a stranger's figure."
Since posting the statement on her story, fans have flooded Twitter with body positive comments and praise for what Lili said. Her Riverdale co-star Camila Mendes also responded with her own message of appreciation and love for Lili's inspiring message.
The caption reads: "Inspired by you @lilireinhart. I feel bloated 24/7, my weight fluctuates constantly, it comes with being a women and should be celebrated, not criticized.
I used to fear the day that people start publicly criticizing my body and commenting on my weight. I've suffered too much from my own self criticism, and wasn't sure that I could handle it from others. But seeing somebody as beautiful as Lili respond to public scrutiny by preaching and practicing self love is all it takes for me to overcome that fear. Proud to call her my friend. Let's continue inspiring women to love their bodies."
lili reinhart is easily one of the most gorgeous people i’ve ever laid my eyes on, body included, and the fact that people feel the need to comment on her stomach or thighs or arms make me sick. everyone has a different body type and not everyone was made to be thin or 110lbs+

It's not the first time Lili has had to set the record straight about embracing body image either. Back in December, she called out an Instagram account for comparing her body to that of a Victoria Secret's model and in March, she and Camila had to call out Cosmopolitan Philippines for photoshopping their cover shoots to make them look thinner.
Lili Reinhart, thank you for your service and thank you for continuing reminding us all to embrace our bodies. Shantay, you stay. Forever.
