Netflix drops Sex Education season 2 next week but it looks like there won't be many more seasons of the teen drama.

Sex Education creator Laurie Nunn has opened up about the series' future and what we can expect in season 2 and beyond.

It's no secret that Sex Education season 1 was a huge success. As soon as the teen drama came out on Netflix in January 2019, viewers were obsessed with it. Not only did fans instantly fall in love Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey) and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) but the entire cast stole people's hearts with their hilarious one-liners and relatable storylines.

Last night (Jan 8), we spoke to the show's creator Laurie Nunn on the red carpet for the Sex Education season 2 world premiere about the second season and when she thinks the show will end.

First of all, we asked Laurie what she's most excited for fans to see in season 2 and she said that there's a key storyline with Adam, Eric and new student Rahim coming up.

She said: "I'm attached to all of the characters. I sort of love them all equally but Adam and Eric and Rahim. That's a lot of fun to watch for me. It's the one that brings me the most joy." Interesting!

We then pressed Laurie on what's to come in season 3, if the series gets renewed by Netflix, and it sounds like she's already got some pretty big plans about what will happen to Otis, Maeve, Eric and the rest of Moordale High next.

Laurie explained: "I'm definitely already percolating ideas for season 3 and thinking about where I can take these characters next."

Most interestingly of all though, Laurie revealed how long she intends the series to run for and it sadly seems as though we won't get too many more seasons of Sex Education. She teased: "I always feel that teen shows should maybe stop before university. Otherwise, you get the point where people are 30-years-old and they're playing teenagers."

Laurie makes a fair point. It's hard to imagine Sex Education outside of Moordale High and the cast can't play teenagers for too long. That being said, with the school being a sixth form college, it doesn't leave room for too many seasons before the characters graduate and we're not ready to say goodbye just yet.

Thankfully, we now know that season 3 is already being planned. Here's hoping there's at least a season 4 too.
