Will there be a The Society season two on Netflix? Here's everything we know so far... [SPOILERS AHEAD!]
Netflix's latest teen drama, The Society, has been billed as a modern day Lord of the Flies meets Pretty Little Liars (and like, LOST if it was set in a fictional town in New England, USA instead of a desert island.)
The new series dropped on the streaming service on May 10th and people are already living for the plot twists, the characters and the absolutely mind-blowing finale. But what will happen next? And will there be a season two?
After 10 incredibly tense episodes and one hell of a cliffhanger, we're already dying for the next season. Season one left us with several unanswered questions and some looming unfinished storylines that might be way more sinister than we actually thought, like who actually shot [SPOILER] in episode 3.
Are they trapped in an upside down universe? Is it all a social experiment? Is it a dream!? Or is something way more dangerous afoot? And will the teenagers ever reunite with their parents and return to their actual homes?
Here's everything we know about The Society season 2 so far, including the release date, the cast and spoilers about the plot:
Has The Society season 2 been renewed? Will there be a The Society season 2?
Yes. On July 9th, Netflix announced that The Society would be returning for a second season on Netflix. Speaking to Digital Spy before the series was renewed, creator Christopher Keyser said: "Netflix decides that based on our viewership. So you never do know. Some shows get two seasons in initial orders. I think Sabrina did. But we got a one-season order, which is usual. And then we wait, as everyone else does, to see what the audience decides."
In other words, you can expect to see a lot more of your faves very soon.
When will The Society season 2 be released?
Alongside the renewal announcement, The Society cast confirmed that the show will be back in 2020. If the show works on a yearly cycle like most other Netflix series, we could expect season 2 as soon as next May.
How many episodes will be in The Society season 2?
If season 2 follows the template of season 1, it will likely have another 10 episodes. But so far, that's all unconfirmed of course.
Which characters will be in The Society season 2?
If the show gets picked up for a second season, it looks like we'll be picking up exactly where we left off which means everyone who was still alive at the end of season one will likely return. Expect to see the main characters including Allie (Kathryn Newton), Will (Jacques Coliman), Harry (Alex Fitzalan), Kelly (Kristine Froseth), Becca (Gideon Adlon), Sam (Sean Berdy), Campbell (Toby Wallace), Elle (Olivia DeJonge) and Grizz (Jack Mulhern) again.
It also looks likely that Gordie (José Julián), Bean (Salena Qureshi), Lexie (Grace Victoria Cox), Jason (Emilio Garcia-Sanchez) and Clark (Spencer House) will be back too. Those who likely won't return, because they died are: Cassandra (Rachel Keller) and Dewey (Seth Meriwether). However, given the mystery surrounding the series, anything is possible.
What’s going to happen in The Society season 2?
Now that Campbell and Harry have taken control over the town and imprisoned Allie and Will, things don't look good for the teen residents of New Ham. Season 2 will likely focus on the negative effects of them being in power. That being said, we reckon that Kelly, Becca, Sam, Grizz, Bean and Gordie will work to set Allie and Will free and put a stop to Campbell. It looks like Elle will also help them from the inside.
Elsewhere, season 2 will probably see some of the residents of New Ham move outside of the town. In the season 1 finale, Grizz and a team of explorers discovered new land for the teens to farm on. It will be interesting to see how this affects the dynamic of New Ham. Character wise, there's still no word on who the father of Becca's baby is, so we hope that will be explained in season 2.
The main question season 1 left us with though is: are the teenagers all dead? The final shot of the series switched to the actual West Ham and showed a memorial paying tribute to all of the teens in New Ham. Is the whole series based in some sort of afterlife? Are the parents involved in a government experiment? Did anyone actually die? Fingers crossed we find out in the next season.
