The official petition to get Robert Sheehan a Klaus spin-off show starts here.
While fans eagerly await the return of The Umbrella Academy season 2 (seriously, when is the release date?), our Lord and Saviour Gerard Way has blessed us all with a very very very good gift to pass the time.
The gift in question? A new prequel mini-series comic that focuses on the life and times of an 18-year-old Klaus Hargreeves.
Written by Way and Shaun Simon, the prequel story, titled "You Look Like Death", will follow Klaus as he gets kicked out of the academy and makes his way to Hollywood, where typical Klaus antics ensue.
Last week (Feb 29), on-screen siblings Sheehan and Emmy Raver-Lampman appeared at Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo to chat to fans about The Umbrella Academy. While no season 2 hints or spoilers were spilled, Robert did react to the news about the exciting prequel series.
As reported by Tell-Tale TV, who were at the event, one fan asked Robert what he thought about the spin-off and guys – it's good news! "Yes, absolutely!" he said. "Gerard Way wrote a prequel about Klaus set five or six years before The Umbrella Academy story. I’m well up for that – absolutely!"
Before everyone gets too excited, there are currently no plans (that we're aware of) to adapt the comic mini-series into a spin-off TV series. Given how long it takes for a series of The Umbrella Academy to come to life, it doesn't look like it'll happen any time soon.
Speaking in 2019 about the release date for season 2, show runner Steve Blackman revealed that it takes “18 months to do a season” of the show.
So here's hoping the Netflix series can weave some of that prequel storyline into Klaus' narrative because Robert Sheehan as 18-year-old Klaus in Hollywood is what we deserve!
