Will there be a second season of The Umbrella Academy on Netflix and what will the storyline be?
Netflix's new superhero series The Umbrella Academy is currently taking the whole world by storm. Based on the now iconic comic book series of the same name, The Umbrella Academy tells the story of seven adopted siblings who were born under mysterious circumstances and all possess powerful abilities (except for Vanya... well kind of). The show was created by My Chemical Romance star Gerard Way and it slaps.
With that in mind, it's no surprise that viewers are already desperate for a second season. The first series gets pretty intense towards the end and finishes on a major cliffhanger (it may or may not have something to do with the apocalypse). Fans are now desperate to find out what happens next and see the Hargreeves again. Find out everything you need to know about The Umbrella Academy season 2 here.
WARNING: SEASON 1 SPOILERS AHEAD
Will there be a The Umbrella Academy season 2?
As it stands The Umbrella Academy is yet to be officially renewed for a second season. However, given how popular season 1 is, it seems almost certain that Netflix will be making The Umbrella Academy season 2. The first season only dips into the second volume of The Umbrella Academy comics, so there is still plenty of material for the show to cover.
Not only that but the cast and showrunner Steve Blackman have all confirmed that there are plans for season 2, so it's very likely that the series will be returning to fulfil them. We can't wait.
When will The Umbrella Academy season 2 come out?
Given that The Umbrella Academy season 2 hasn't been announced (at the moment), there's still no word on what day it will be released. Netflix shows usually work in yearly cycles, so you might expect it to drop at some point in February 2020. The trailer for season 1 came out in December 2018, so we'll likely get a teaser before the year is up.
Netflix series usually stick to the same amount of episodes per season, so you can expect at least 10 new episodes of The Umbrella Academy in 2020.
Who will be in The Umbrella Academy season 2?
You don't need to worry. As long as The Umbrella Academy season 2 is renewed, all of the Hargreeves siblings will be back for more madness. Ellen Page (Vanya), Tom Hopper (Luther), David Castañeda (Diego), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), Aidan Gallagher (Number Five) and Justin H. Min (Ben) are all integral to the series.
Given the huge twist at the end of the show, with all of the siblings travelling back in time, The Umbrella Academy season 2 could feature anyone though. We've had some huge deaths in season 1, (Detective Patch (Ashley Madekwe), Pogo (Adam Gole) but chances are that they could return now that we'll be in an alternate reality.
Expect more of living legends Hazel (Cameron Britton) and Cha Cha (Mary J. Blige) too. Not to mention, Sir Reginald (Colm Ferore), Grace (Jordan Claire Robbins), The Handler (Kate Walsh) and, unfortunately, Harold Jenkins (John Magaro). There will probably be many more scenes with the young Hargreeves cast too.
What will happen in The Umbrella Academy season 2?
The Umbrella Academy season 1 strayed away from the comics so it's likely that season 2 will do the same. The first series of the comics ended with the Hargreeves siblings saving the world instead of going back in time to undo the apocalypse so there is very little chance that it can follow the plot of the second volume of The Umbrella Academy comics: Dallas.
In Dallas, Allison is still voiceless (after Vanya accidentally cut her throat) and subsequently powerless. However, seeing as the siblings have gone back in time, she will likely regain her voice and Ben is almost certainly alive again. It seems likely that the script will focus on the siblings helping Vanya control her powers to avoid the end of the world.
However, not even the cast no what's going to happen. Speaking to Den of Geek, Tom Hopper said: "“With this show that's a huge question cause we could go in so many different directions. And yeah, the time travel element is gonna be a huge one. Where we are and then what we do in that time period remains to be seen."
Cameron Britton also told them: “There are so many questions of what happens next but (showrunner) Steve Blackman's being horrible and won't tell me about it.” Okay. So it's anyone's guess but we are ready. Bring on season 2.
