The Act: The real Gypsy Rose Blanchard has got engaged in prison

The real Gypsy Rose Blanchard is the subject of The Act on Hulu, a show which stars Joey King and Patricia Arquette and tells the tragic story of a young woman involved in the killing of her abusive mother, Dee Dee.

Dee Dee Blanchard was believed to have Munchausen syndrome by proxy, lying about leukaemia, muscular dystrophy, asthma, and other ailments Gypsy Rose supposedly had. Gypsy Rose is currently serving a 10-year sentence for her involvement in Dee Dee's murder.

Despite Gypsy threatening legal action over the show, The Act has sparked renewed interest in her case. Thousands have signed a petition spearheaded by Gypsy Rose's father, Rod Blanchard, pleading for her release. Now, a new letter written by Gypsy Rose from prison is calling for her supporters to do her "a favor" which could help her case.

In a statement obtained by In Touch, Gypsy Rose has asked fans to write letters supporting her early release.

"Hello Friends and Supporters. I appreciate the continued encouragement throughout my prison sentence. Many of y’all have signed the Free Gypsy Blanchard Petition created by my father Rod Blanchard. Now, I must ask a favor, I am respectfully asking all who wish me an early release to please aid my father in his efforts for my freedom and write a letter expressing support for my early release to either the Missouri State Governor, Michael L. Parson, AND/OR the Division of the Missouri State Board of Probation and Parole."

Gypsy Rose included an address where supporters could send their letters.

She also noted that she has an upcoming parole hearing scheduled for December 2021. If she serves her full sentence, Gypsy Rose is due to be released in 2024, though her former boyfriend Nick Godejohn was recently sentenced to life in prison.
