Will Netflix renew 13 Reasons Why for a third season? Season two left several loose endings for Netflix to pick up for another season.
13 Reasons Why returned last week (May 18) for season two and judging by the cliffhangers at the end of episode 13, and comments made by the studio and the showrunner, it looks like a third season is definitely in the works.
The latest cast member to comment on the possibility of a third season is Hannah Baker the Friendly Ghost herself, Katherine Langford.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she was asked whether she feels like Hannah's storyline is finally over now the lawsuit against the school district is over.
"It was such a wonderful opportunity to tell her story so fully in season one, and I'm really glad to have been asked back and to have been a part of a second season", she told THR.
"I don't know if I can comment on the third season. I don't know if there's going to be a third season. This could have been Hannah's last chapter, but I guess we'll have to wait and officially see."
This could have been Hannah's last chapter? Maybe. While there are plenty of other storylines and loose ends left to be explored for season three, 13 Reasons Why without Hannah Baker doesn't quite seem right. And we're sure the studio will be keen to keep the show's biggest star in the show.
So, what could happen in season three and what do we know about the plans for a third season so far? Here's all the info you need to know. WARNING: There are spoilers ahead if you haven't seen all of season two.
13 Reason Why season three plot:
There are several loose ends at the end of season two that the writers could use for another season:
-The school district is found not responsible for the Hannah's death and Bryce receives three months probation for sexually assaulting Jessica. Will Bryce face anymore consequences for his actions?
-Chloe finds out that Bryce also raped her but defends him at Hannah's court case. She then discovers that's pregnant. Will she continue to support Bryce and have his child?
-When Clay offers Justin to be adopted by his parents, however, Seth - his mother's abusive partner - is seen watching him. Is he going to do something to Justin? And will Justin go through with the adoption?
-Tyler is beaten up and sexually assaulted by Monty in the men's bathrooms. Will Monty be punished for this?
-Tyler, having been talked out of shooting students at the ball by Clay, escapes in Tony's car. Will Tyler be caught by the police? Where in Tony taking him?
-What happens to Clay? The police are about to arrive at the ball and he's holding Tyler's automatic rifle.
-Jessica & Justin hook up at the ball. Will they get back together?
-Bryce says he transferring out of Liberty High. Will he actually leave?
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, show runner Brain Yorkey said about the possibility of a third season: "I always think there's more story to tell, but I think that depends on viewers and everyone's reaction to it and whether it's important to keep telling the story."
"With the second season, we feel as with the first that we're following the stories of these characters. I do think that our interest in a second season was because we wanted to continue to follow these people," he continued."If there is a future for the show, to me, it's about these characters, and not necessarily a new set of reasons or a new set of tapes. Someone else might do that, but that's not my job to do that."
Has 13 Reasons Why been renewed for season three?
The short answer? No, not yet. However, they have been some interesting developments already.
Sonoma West Times & News, a local newspaper in California, has reported that Analy High School, a real school where the scenes at Liberty High are filmed in 13RW, have agreed to allow filming for a third season.
In the piece, they write: "The West Sonoma County Union High School District board on April 11 approved a third licensing agreement with Paramount Pictures that allows the company to film scenes at the Sebastopol High School."
Jeannie Bruneman, the high school district’s facilities manager, told the school board that “district staff reported that the filming for both seasons was overall very positive” and that the school could expect approximately $66,000 from the studio to film at the school. Filming would take place between mid-June and end in December. It also reported that the school received $124,000 for season two which included "the rental fee, along with overtime charges and improvements associated with making Analy look like the Liberty High that the show envisioned."
Previously, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Television head Amy Power was asked if the studio would be open to creating a third season and she said: "It's up to [showrunner] Brian [Yorkey]," she said. "We're not going to pressure him to create more seasons if he doesn't feel they are there, but he is already starting to think about what a season three could be."
Things got even more interesting when Brain Yorkey (May 1st) said he felt there was more potential for the characters past season two. "I do think that our interest in a second season was because we wanted to continue to follow these people," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Is there a trailer 13 Reasons Why season 3 yet?
No. Last time, a short teaser dropped about a month after the first season, so you've got a little wait yet.
13 Reasons Why season 3 cast:
