Fans have a lot of thoughts about these new 'Apocalypse' characters...

The fourth episode of American Horror Story: Apocalypse aired last night and it's safe to say that it was a trip. After weeks of teasing the return of the witches, Ryan Murphy finally delivered on his promise. Three fan favourites from Coven appeared at the end of Episode 3 (Cordelia, Myrtle, Madison) and now we've finally been given some context as to a) why they are at the Outpost and b) what has happened in the interim.

'American Horror Story: Apocalypse': Who Is In The Cast?

First things first, Mallory, Coco and Dinah are all witches of their own accord and Cordelia actually put a spell on Mallory and Coco so that they wouldn't know their real identities. Amazing. There's also a flashback in which it's made clear that Mallory is Supreme level powerful (she turns petals into butterflies). Oh and Michael brings Madison (and Queenie!) back to life. It's the warlocks people are stuck on though.

The episode gives us a flashback in which we find out that the Outpost used to be a warlock coven run by Grand Chancellor Ariel Augustus (Jon Jon Briones) and his council (Billy Porter, Cheyenne Jackson, BD Wong). Not only that but we learn that they brought Michael to their coven after becoming aware of his powers and then trained him to be the new supreme even though supremes are historically female.

Essentially, it's lowkey their fault that the world ends because, instead of considering that Michael might be some dark force of evil (like I don't know say the Antichrist), they try to use him as a pawn to outdo Cordelia's coven and, in doing so, they give him the tools that he needs to cause the Apocalypse. Unsurprisingly, fans are not impressed. Here are some of the reactions to the warlocks' antics.

Men are trash in every form.

.

We see no lies.

The warlocks just aren't that bright tbh.

.

There were so many signs that they ignored.

Masculinity stays toxic.

.

Yawn.

The witches know better.

.

They never let us down.

Inferiority complexes ruin lives.

.

Misogyny is a killer.

Thankfully Cordelia came through with a quote to put the boys in their place.

.

Iconic.

And last but not least, four levels instead of the seven wonders...

.

...we have to laugh.
