Hannah Montana prequel series is in the works at Disney+, according to Billy Ray Cyrus

It's currently unclear if Miley Cyrus will be involved in the new Hannah Montana series and who else will be in the cast.

Ever since the final episode of Hannah Montana aired in 2011, fans have been desperate for it to return. Viewers couldn't get enough of Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) and her double life as a high school student and a teen pop sensation. In 2013, Miley Cyrus famously said "Hannah Montana is dead" on SNL but now it looks like the iconic Disney character is coming back.

In a recent interview, Billy Ray Cyrus teased that a brand new Hannah Montana prequel series is in the works.

Chatting to Hollywood Life, Billy revealed: "They're talking about doing a prequel, which to me, I would do that in a heartbeat because that means I get to get my mullet back." Sweet niblets! Billy then added: "I think there’s a whole story that led up to Miley becoming Hannah Montana." In other words, the series could explore how Miley Stewart became Hannah Montana.

Given that it would be a prequel series, it seems unlikely that Miley will appear on screen in any official capacity but there's a chance that she could star in flash forwards...or even narrate the series?

When Hannah Montana ended, Miley seemed keen to distance herself from the series, but in recent years she's sung Hannah songs at shows and even revived her hairstyle.

Last year, Hannah fans noticed that a mysterious Hannah Montana account had been created on Instagram with the handle: @hannahmontana. The account currently has no posts and only follows Miley Cyrus, but it seems likely that Disney have set it up in anticipation of this upcoming prequel series.

As it stands, there is no word on who will star in the cast and who will play a young Hannah Montana in the series. We shall keep you posted with any updates.
