Following the summer of printed shirt, dad bod Chief Hopper in Stranger Things 3 and THAT SNL bicep moment in October, I am thrilled to confirm that the internet's thirst levels for David Harbour have spiked yet again, thanks to the new trailer for Marvel's Black Widow.

The long-awaited first look at the Black Widow standalone movie dropped yesterday (Dec 3) and gave us a glimpse at Scarlett Johansson back in Natasha Romanoff's wig. Marvel fans promptly lost it over the clip, with the majority of the internet pledging their unwavering allegiance to Florence Pugh and Rachel Weisz almost immediately.

But amidst all the screaming and the theorising about whether or not Yelena is wearing the same green vest Nat wore in Infinity War, thirst levels were rising thanks to David Harbour's role as the Red Guardian.

Who is David Harbour playing in Black Widow?

Fresh off a season of Stranger Things that also involved Russians, David Harbour is playing the Red Guardian, who is basically the Russian version of Captain America – and his name is Alexei Shostakov (yes, Alexei... we know!)

In the comics, the Red Guardian and the Black Widow were actually in an arranged marriage but based on the trailer, it looks like Harbour's Alexei is more of a family figure to Nat (Johansson), Melina (Weisz) and Yelena (Pugh). After breaking out of the jail he was being held in and returning home, he says “family, back together again” to the ladies sitting around the table.

But then again, you never know. As always, Marvel is keeping details about the film under wraps and anything could happen.

The trailer shows clips of Harbour as the Red Guardian donning his suit for the first time in years, throwing hands with a soldier, and flexing his muscles in the mirror. Shirtless. Covered in tattoos. The internet has not been able to cope since.

In and amongst all the thirst, fans were also generally hyped to see Harbour in the role. People are already predicting that Alexei is going to be the best part of the whole film.

David Harbour hive, let's gooooooo!
