KJ Apa has opened up about losing Luke Perry for the first time and how Riverdale will address Fred's death with Archie.

Here's what happened in Luke Perry's final scene on Riverdale

Luke Perry passed away earlier this year on March 4th, after suffering a stroke. He died a month before he, and the Riverdale cast and crew finished filming season 3 of the teen drama. Following his death, many of Luke's Riverdale co-stars took to social media to pay tribute to the beloved actor. KJ Apa initially shared a photo of Luke on Instagram with the caption "Rest in love bro" and now he's spoken publicly about losing Luke Perry in a Jimmy Fallon interview.

Speaking to Jimmy, KJ said: "Everyone was pretty shocked. It's not every day that you come across a guy like Luke. Luke is the kind of guy who did everything he can to make whoever you are, no matter how big or small you are, feel comfortable or welcome. It's hard to kind of put into words how that makes me feel." KJ and Luke worked together for almost three years as on screen father and son, Archie and Fred Andrews.

Visibly choking up, KJ then added: "We had a really close relationship. He would call my parents every week and keep them updated on how I'm going. Like if I had a cold or something, he'd be like 'I got him. I took some Gatorade to his apartment the other day.' Him and my dad were always texting each other. He made such a huge effort from the beginning. I wish I could be like that."

KJ also spoked about Luke with Entertainment Tonight: "His legacy is gonna live on in the lives around him, that he worked with, you know? I'm never gonna forget him and I think it's still very fresh and we're all still dealing with it." Discussing how Riverdale will explain Fred's absence, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa previously told ET that he will die in Riverdale.

Discussing Fred's death, KJ said: "We're definitely gonna obviously have to address it at some point. [Possibly] that [means] Molly stepping in as more of an active parent for Archie, but that all depends on the availability of the actors around us. So, you know, we'll do what we can." As it stands, it's unclear if Fred will die in Riverdale season 3 or 4 and how.
